Multi screen and filters

Whilst editing our music video we have decided to add multi screens and filters to our shots. We believe that adding these different visual effects will make our video appear more interesting and draw in our target audiences attention. As well as this since our trial run our skills as a group have improved drastically and we are now pleased with the overall look of the beginning of the video.

Although we did have to adjust some of our original filming. This is because we were planning on having a close up on the artists lips within the multi screen at the beginning of the video. We wanted to do this because it meant we could've displayed our lip syncing skills very well. However as I filmed these shots myself it was quite difficult to position the camera correctly. Therefore I think that including a close up of the face instead was more effective as it meant I could position the camera correctly. Even though we had to change our original idea I think that it is more important that the angle of the shot looks professional.

Firstly, the print screen above displays an image of one of the multi screens that we have created for the beginning of our music video. We decided to include this feature in order to make the video appear visually interesting. The process of creating this effect was very time consuming however I am pleased with the overall effect that we have created and I think that it looks very exciting when the video is playing. Although in order to improve this even further I think that we need to adjust some of the screens slightly so that they are perfectly aligned, by doing this we will make the video appear as professional as we can.

As well creating different multi screens, we also wanted to adjust the colour and lighting on some of the shots. Above is a print screen which I took during the process of changing the colours. Therefore you can see the contrast as five of the screens are a lot brighter and appear more professional than the other five screens which are quite dull. I think that it was effective for us to change the colouring of the shot as it engages the audiences attention, where as I think the original lighting is not interesting enough.

Moreover, we also wanted to add a filter to some of the shots. The above print screen is the opening shot of our music video. I think that it is a good idea that we start our music video with a multi screen and an added filter as it grabs the audiences attention and hopefully keeps them intrigued to watch the rest of the music video. In order to create the effect that appears above, we first added the black and white filter, however the shot still appeared quite dull. Therefore we changed the lighting and contrast on the shot in order to make our artist stand out from the white background. Overall I am very pleased with the visual effect that has been created using this filter as I think that it makes our video appear professional and stands out as it has its own unique aspect.

In conclusion, as I have mentioned previously this was a time consuming process as it involved us developing our skills as a group. However I think that the process was worth the final outcome and I am very happy with the images that we have created for the opening of our video. This process has also made us realise as a group that in order to achieve the best possible results we need to apply as much time as possible to the editing of our material.

Change in Artist

As we were developing further into the filming process of our coursework we realised that we need an actress to star in our music video that is available at any time. This is particularly important if we wanted to re-film any of the shots. The person that we had originally chosen to star in our music video was not always available to do so. Therefore we decided that in order to ensure our artist was available, we thought that it would be appropriate for one of the groups members to take the leading role. As a result of this I am now starring in the music video. I am glad that as a group we made this decision sooner rather than later as it means we now have to adjust some of our previous filming. If we had made this decision later in the process it could've set us back further.

Image of artist
Above is an image of how I am going to be presented in parts of the music video. We wanted to still follow a similar image idea as before. Therefore we are continuing to use a young looking artist so that she can relate to our target audience. We also wanted the artists hair and make up to be an iconic feature within the video. This is because for some of our shots we are planning on using close ups, therefore her features need to stand out. As our new artist does not have particularly long hair we decided to tie it up in some of shots to create an illusion that it is longer then it actually is. As well as this we added the plait through the fringe to make it appear more interesting.

Moreover, the artist is also continuing to wear quite a dark lipstick as we want the artists lip colour to be fitting with the dark mood of the video. Furthermore, we think that it if the artist is wearing a bold lipstick it will focus our audiences attention on her lips during the lip syncing scene.

Finally, you can see in the image above that the artist is wearing dark clothing. This is because we also want the artists clothes to be representative of the narrative of the video. Although we are planning on having more than one costume change throughout the video. As generally most professional videos display the artist in more than one style.

In conclusion, I think that we have made an effective decision by changing the artist to ensure that we can be as successful as possible. I am also pleased with the overall image that we have created for our artist as I think that it is very fitting towards the lyrics of the song and the narrative that we are tying to create.

Font ideas for our digipak

As part of our coursework we also have the create a digipak. Therefore I thought it would be a good idea to carry out some research into the different types of fonts that are available to use and which one would be most suited to our artists style. Below are some prints screens of some fonts that I have looked at. Some of them I am considering using where as others I am not.

This image displays some fonts that are all of a similar theme. They are all very curly. I have decided that these type of fonts do not suit our artists image. I would prefer for our artist to have an edger vibe to her look, considering she is going to be singing an R&B song. Therefore I think that this text is too girly. As well as this, I would prefer to go for something quite plain as it makes it more visible on the shelf.

Above is an image of some other fonts that I have looked at. One of the fonts that I like out of these is, PRISMA. I like this font because it is quite bold as it is all in upper case and therefore would stands out on the case. I also like the use of lines that are integrated within the font as it adds an extra something to the font, however it is not too overcomplicated.

I also looked at some of the most recent fonts that are on the dafont website. I thought it would be a good idea to look at recent fonts as it gave me an idea of what is new and currently available. One of the newest fonts that I like is LASER METAL. The only problem I have with this font is that it might be quite difficult for our audience to read, as some of the letters might get confused with each other and therefore it will not be as eye catching whilst on the shelf.

Overall this research into fonts has been useful to me as it has given me a greater idea of the different types of fonts that are available to us and it has also given me an idea of the type of font that I would like to use for my artist. Although I still have not made a final decision on the font that I want to use, I think that this research has been productive in establishing what I like and do not like for my artist and has helped me to narrow down my choices.

Rihanna's image

As I am re-creating a song made by the artist Rihanna. I thought it would be a good idea to look at her image as an artist and see how she has changed over the years. As well as this, I can try to reflect some of her image into my own artist as Rihanna has been a success for many years, therefore her image as an artist is working.

2006

Rihanna first hit the charts in 2005 with Pon De Replay. However the above image is taken from her single S0S in 2006. Never the less, this was when Rihanna was first making her mark in the music industry. As quite a young artist, Rihanna had a very simple image and she was sticking true to her Barbados roots.

As Rihanna became more familiar with herself as an artist and the image she wanted to create, she became more experimental with her hair. For example the left image above shows how Rihanna was styled when she released her hit "Take a Bow". As you can see her image is very contrasting from when she first started out in the music industry. As well as this, Rihanna choosing to have short hair meant that she subverted the typical image of a female artist, as they tend to go for long feminine hair.

Next, the right image above shows Rihanna when she had bright red hair. This became quite iconic to her as an artist and this style also featured in her hit "Only Girl in The World". Rihanna's bold hair set a statement for her as an artist and also inspired her target audience to be bolder. Rihanna's fans were inspired to have similar hair.

2012

The above image displays Rihanna's look in 2012. As you can see from her blonde curly hair it is completely contrasting in comparison to when she first started out in the music industry. Once again I think Rihanna uses her hair to set a statement to her target audience, as well as this it gives them an image to look up to and follow as it is very different to what you would expect to see.

2015

The above image displays Rihanna's current image. In comparison to some of the other hair styles that Rihanna has had throughout the years, this is a lot more natural and fitting to her.  After looking at images of Rihanna throughout the years, I have noticed that she often likes to change her style whether that be her hair or her clothing, in order to keep things fresh and interesting.

I have found that Rihanna often keeps her make up the same, it is her hair that she tends to experiment with. This is something to keep in mind when thinking about how we want our own artist to be portrayed. As to whether we want her to have an iconic image that she sticks with or if she mixes things up every so often. Also, this research has shown me that artists tend to start out with quite a basic image and adapt it as they become more familiar with themselves.

Overall I think that this research into Rihanna's image was successful. Although I have already created my artist, her image is open to change. Therefore looking at how Rihanna is styled was useful to me as it means I have a greater understanding of what looks works and what doesn't.
