As I began to try adding different fonts to the front of our digipak, I decided that I wanted a background on the font. This is because our front cover contains a close up image of the artist and I thought that if we didn't add anything to the cover, it could potentially end up looking quite bland.
As a result of this I started researching into images on google. I wanted to find a background pattern that looked quite distressed to fit in with the overall tone of our video and the artists image. I thought that it would a good idea to find an image of splattered black and white ink. After some research I found the image that is featured below.
Although the image itself was not in the shape that I wanted it to be. Therefore I uploaded the image to photoshop and started to edit the image and change the shape of it so that I could add the text over the top.
I decided to cut the image into the shape that is shown above. I didn't want the image to be too precise so whilst cutting the image I made a rough outline. I was pleased with the shape that I created. However when I added it onto my cd cover it blended in too much with the artists jumper. Therefore I decided to lighten to the backing of the image and change the contrast so that the ink splatters were more prominent on the page.
In order to adjust the colouring of the image I had to change the input levels, this is displayed in the print screens above. I completed this technique using photoshop.
The image above shows backing featured on the front cover with the title of the album and the artist's name over the top. Overall I am very pleased with the visual effect that the backing has created. I think that it draws attention to the title of the album, without the backing it is likely that the text would fade into the background because of the dark colouring used throughout.
