Media Studies A2- Music Video - Analysis

One of the things that I particularly like about this music video is the use of time lapse. Below is a screen shot of part of the time lapse. It shows time passing as the clouds move. I think that the use of these shots are effective because they keep the audience interested as they look interesting on the screen and add to the narrative of the video as they create a sense of time.

Another thing that I like about this music video is that the students have used a narrative style. However they have also included part of a performance so that they can display the lip syncing aspect which is needed in the video in order to make it appear professional. The use of performance is displayed in the print screen. For our own music video I like the idea of having a narrative style as it keeps the audience engaged as they want to know how the story finishes. Although the use of performance helps to break up the narrative and add something new to the video.

Another aspect of this video that I also like is the use of a filter which makes some of the colour appear faded out in several shots. I think that the use of faded colouring adds to the atmosphere that the group are trying to create. I will consider using filtered screens within our own music video depending on the song that we decide to use.

Overall I think that this music video is very good because the students have got the right balance between narrative and performance. This means that the audience will stay engaged with the video. As well as this I think that these students have used a variety of different shots which is also important as if the camera remains stationary the video might become boring and uninteresting. This is a key point to remember when creating our own music video.
